For a Mac, I highly recommend upgrading to 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard, Intel only) and using the built-in Time Machine. Hop over to Newegg and pick up an external hard drive. Plug in the drive, format it for Mac, and you’re all set.
