Since when is making money a scam? They have an excellent business model, there is no need to cheat, or scam or do anything that would jeopardize the massive profits they are making. I agree that it is a concern that these penny auction sites might be using shills to drive up prices, but I doubt it for the reason I already stated above. The model for massive legitimate profit is solid, simple mathematics will tell you this, so why risk the model on cheating? There is no secret here, anyone who thinks they got taken for a ride only does so because they feel foolish for not full appreciating the ramifications of what they were doing. Do you also try to throw the ring over the prize at carnivals? Yes, it technically fits, but you probably aren't going to pull it off.
Stop villainizing penny auction sites for your own failure to analyze the situation.

Pro Tip: this is one of those ping targets. Hit it with enough pings at the right time and the server's will lock up when there are only 15 cent bids on HDTVs. Sticking it to the fatman.

Ok... so I read all the stuff about the "scam" that Quibids is, etc. But I decided to check it out anyway. So I'll start by saying that after WEEKS of watching the site, and practice bidding, THERE IS A STRATEGY TO WINNING BIG ON THIS SITE.

Now of course, there are a lot of impatient, stupid people, who hop on the site, lose a few dollars to stupid bidding and then get pissed off and post nasty comments on sites like this.

But your "power bidders", the guys that are making money and getting stuff for cheap off the site, know there are fools hopping on every day, and it's those fools that make the site so profitable, and grant those of us with a brain, who actually put some research in the opportunity to save BIG on this site.

Now am I going to break down what the strategy is to win bids, and to come out with great savings almost every time? NO! Of course not! You need to do the same thing I did, and shut up and watch the site, watch the bids, figure the strategy, and stop whining.

I will say this though, and it has heavy hints to what the successful bidders are doing. It's not a "gamble" or a "chance" if you can turn your bids into a purchase using the "Buy-it Now" option. Are some items overpriced on the "estimated value" shown? YES! Don't bid on those items then. =) That's all I'll say.

Watch the site. Learn the strategy. Read the above paragraph over and over till you get what I'm saying. And leave Quibids alone, as there are quite a few people who "get it" and are immensely enjoying the ample savings we're receiving off the site.

-O'Niel

p.s. - @Jeff (comment #41) It's people like you who have a half a twit for a brain that are giving the site a bad name. Just shut up and go watch TV or something. Assuming your scenario of an item being won for $50.00 is correct (though I can't even begin to tell you how many items I've watched Quibids lose massive money on) and those bids were increased in increments of $0.1 per bid, that would be a total of $3000 to the company, not the 1000% inflated figure of $30,000 that you posted.

Also, just so everyone is aware, Quibids doesn't stock anything. They drop ship, or order the stuff when you win it, which is literally hundreds of items a day.

Also, when exercising the "Buy it now" option, remember that you don't have to pay tax in most cases. So it often works to the same or close as if you picked it up in the store. (read my "tell all" paragraph again in the main body of my comment.)

Wah wah wah, this is all I'm seeing in this article. Yea, they make their real money from the bids not the actual sales. Plenty of things in real life that work this way. The reason nobody is calling the cops is because auctions and raffles aren't illegal. In North Carolina, a woman sold her home by raffle and made more from the raffle ticket sales than she would've made just selling it on the market. The tickets were twenty dollars and the winner only bought a hundred. Does this mean she SCAMMED the others who didn't win into buying tickets? No. You pick your battles people and if you play a game where you pay for the chance to win or not win then just get over it if you don't win. Go buy the thing you might have won and stop your crying. The fact that the website provided you with all these facts PROBABLY means it's all on the up and up legally.

So far all the legitimate complaints that have legal ramifications are in the comments section regarding the bidding machine logging bids incorrectly.

1. If you are complaining you have done yourself a disservice by not understanding how this site works.
2. If there were "bots" placing bids this site would be gone yesterday.
3. Pulling a handle on a slot machine is gambling. Stumbling onto a site and thinking you could win the most sought after electronics on the planet for 50 cents is lunacy. Slot machines are a gamble. Russian Roulette is a gamble. Strategically participating in penny auctions is not gambling...it's strategically participating in penny auctions.
4. If i read one more post about how this site is ripping off poor people who are trying to save money in this bad economy I will play russian roulette with a full chamber with myself... i cant take how ignorant and so dependent on others this country is becoming! If you want a discount, go to walmart. (i make around 18,000 dollars a year and am starting a wedding videography business ((PoeticVowsCinematography for anyone in Columbus, OH!!!)) and am currently bidding on one of the most popular cameras on the market. There is ONE up for auction-and the retail price is the same as you would find at walmart, mind you- and there are how many, millions? of people on this site now? I am under the impression that I might not win. But with a little research and using of the brain (its not that hard... i dropped out of high school) I can increase my chances of winning.) Don't bid on an item unless you can and are willing to pay full price for it.
5. You are not getting scammed because you lost an auction. You lost the auction because you werent the highest bidder, AKA, someone else won. (i know, we dont like to hear that we lost. so, did you at least have fun? thats all that REALLY matters, yeah?)
6. Someone else was smarter than you in the way they executed their bids. OR...
7. Someone else has more money than you. So...
8. They bought more bids than you. Because...
9. They valued the item more than you did. Or...
10. They just have more money than you do and it doesnt matter to them if they blow 500 dollars on bids.
11. Quibids is a business.
12. Businesses make money.
13. You make them money.
14. I can count to 14, at least, so thats good.
15. If you say you are filing a class action suit against quibids, you wouldnt win and you are a liar. There are people more powerful than you who I'm sure have already looked into this company, or there is a continued observation of the business. You wouldnt see ads all over planet earth if this were a scam.
16. Prince Ali Farouk of Palistasialy has probably sent you an email asking you to hold money, and therefore needs to know the routing and account number of your checking account... this is a scam. Track him down and file a suit against him. You willingly gave that info to Quibids. Prince Ali has targeted you and is trying to steal your identity. Quibids just wants your money and they will take it if you give it to them. (as would I)
17. If you cant beat em, join em! Buy stock in this company.
18. Just because you think you know someone who works at a casino and they told you how the slot machines work doesnt make you a voice to be heard. Youre friend isnt that important and they sure as hell arent allowed to tell you how a slot machine cycles. But if they did, why are you complaining on a message board and not out buying whatever item you think you got scammed on with the cold hard quarters you won from the slots?
19. Quibids (those that created it) are smarter than you regarding Quibids. 15 people bid on an item and one wins. 14 other people choose whether they lose their money or they buy the item. Shouldnt you be happy that SOMEONE beat the system?
20. Your kid cant hit my kids fastball.. (i dont have any kids, just sounds good) dont go to the league officials and make him play with kids two years older because he is THAT good. Take your kid to the batting cages and make that little bastard hit the 80 mph balls. And if baseball isnt his thing, be ok with that and dont make my kid feel bad for your kid sucking. And when I write in bright red ink on your kids bad homework assignment( im not a teacher) dont complain and tell me i should give him a star that says better luck next time, Johnny. Someone worked at creating a surefire way to make money, throwing a fastball you couldnt hit. And if YOU do hit it, the rest of your team couldnt. It's not their fault you can't hit.
21. You won't hit if you dont swing.

I don't believe quibids is a scam. Those who tend to believe it is a scam are using the wrong strategy. If one begins bidding on something that is, say 15 hours from termination, they will
definitely lose many of their bids @ $.06/bid! The correct strategy is to begin bidding toward
the end of the auction......not at the beginning of the auction!
One will lose every time one uses quibids with an eBay strategy.
That information is divulged in quibids at the very onset of quibids on the quibids site.
I have "won" some good deals and looking forward to winning more.
